Bhastrika is the second Pranayama exercise, practiced immediately after Kapalbhati.
It means so much as „bellows“. We breathe through the nose, forcefully inhaling and exhaling. As with all the yogic breathing techniques, it is advised to practice after bowel movement and four hours after eating.
Contraindications:
You shouldn‘t practice Bhastrika with recent injuries, during pregnancy, when feeling tense, in pain, with a depression or emotionally very unstable. Pay close attention to what Bhastrika does to your nervous system and your emotions. If you over do it, you can feel it quite strongly. Be gentle with yourself and take it easy. One step at a time.
